It’s Almost Mid-June, Assess a Trail!
By Jeanne Esch
June 9
This is a lovely time of year; latest spring to earliest summer. Flowers are blooming and the greens of the trees and grasses are bright; not yet the deepest green of summer. It’s the time of year that we want to do everything! And though the days are longest, they go by quickly.
This posting is a reminder to all of us, including myself, who are committed to determining accessibility at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The reminder is: Assess a Trail this Month!
The Trail Assessment Kits can be picked up from Kimberly in Empire at the Visitor’s Center.
Not trained to assess the trails, but interested in doing so? Contact me though this blog. We will set up a time to train you in trail assessment. It’s not hard to learn. And, your help will be very much appreciated.
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has more than 100 miles of trails. But, many hands (and feet) make light work! Please consider being a part of this project.
Can’t get out on the trails? Needed: Someone to take the information gathered and put it into a data base. The data base is developed. We need someone to plug in the information on forms submitted by those assessing the trails.
